Our Story
A journey from family kitchens in Lagos to serving communities across America.
Tilly's African Kitchen began with a simple dream: to share the flavors of home with a new community. Founded in 2018 by Tilly Adeyemi, our restaurant started as a small pop-up at local markets, serving her mother's jollof rice recipe to curious food lovers who quickly became loyal regulars.
What started as a single folding table and a portable stove has grown into one of the most beloved African dining destinations across the East Coast, South, and West Coast. But some things never change — every batch of egusi is still stirred by hand, every suya skewer is still seasoned with the same yaji blend Tilly's grandmother taught her to make.
Today, Tilly's is more than a restaurant. It's a gathering place for the African diaspora, a cultural bridge for the curious, and a celebration of the rich culinary traditions of West Africa.
